Nestled in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at 243B, Lorong Nibong, this hidden gem brings to life the vibrant essence of Arabic and Middle Eastern cuisine. With an atmosphere reminiscent of a scene from Disney’s *Aladdin*, dining here feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The restaurant’s enchanting decor, from its colorful Bedouin tents to rustic clay walls adorned with intricate patterns, sets the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable meal.
The experience begins as soon as you enter. The ambiance exudes warmth and charm, featuring wooden seating and plush cushions that invite you to sit back and savor every moment. Sahara Tent takes its name seriously, delivering on the fantasy of dining in a whimsical desert oasis.
Now, let’s talk about the stars of the show: the food. Each dish is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the Middle East. My personal favorite, the Mandi Chicken (priced at RM 21.90), is a must-try for any first-timer. The chicken, cooked to perfect tenderness, falls off the bone, surrounded by fluffy rice infused with a delightful blend of spices, saffron, and smokey chicken broth. The flavors meld perfectly, introducing a culinary experience that is both comforting and exhilarating.
As for the service, it’s nothing short of impressive. The staff are friendly and prompt, ensuring that your meal arrives within 10-15 minutes, beautifully plated and ready to be savored. With prices ranging from RM 20-40, Sahara Tent Ampang offers great value for the quality of the food, making it accessible for families and food lovers alike.
Parking is another highlight, with a private lot available just outside the restaurant and additional street parking options. This makes visiting Sahara Tent convenient, even if you find the location a bit tucked away.
In conclusion, Sahara Tent Ampang isn’t merely a restaurant; it’s an experience that captivates the senses. Whether you're drawn in by the enchanting decor, the exquisite flavors, or the warmth of the service, one visit will have you craving a return to this magical Arabian outpost in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. If you’re after a taste of authentic Arabic cuisine, Sahara Tent is calling you to explore its delightful menu and indulge your culinary wanderlust.
“ I felt like singing disney's Alladin "a whole new world" when I dined at the Sahara tent, it felt like I was on a set of Aladdin, the food, oh god was some seriously good arabic (middle-eastern) food... I'm craving for more as I write this review , and furthermore I got a feel of what it was like to dine under the colorful Bedouin tents. Talk about having that fancy Arabian room treatment, the only thing that was missing was some whips and belly dancers. This is a full service restaurant, so plan to spend RM 20-40 per person, it could be considered expensive to some, however I thought for the quality and taste of the food that they serve, the price point was fair and well worth it, if you want a taste of really good arabic food -- credit card, debit card and cash accepted. The parking was free and easy to locate, since they had ample of parking in their private lot right in-front and also some street parking for alternatives. Finding this restaurant is a little tricky, as it is a little hidden My personal favorite was the Mandi Chicken RM 21.90 and the humus be-lamah (humus with minced lamb pieces). The chicken mandi was just amazing and a "must try" in my opinion for any first timers, the flavor of the rice has a perfect balance of smokey, rich taste of the chicken broth and delicious fragrant taste of saffron and other herbs and spices, it has a nice fragrant spicy taste but it was not overpowering. The rice was also very fluffy, and the chicken was cooked to perfect tenderness that it just falls of the bone, while the outer skin of the chicken has a nice crispy outer layer. The humus was very smooth, and had a generous amount of olive oil in it too, and had a perfect balance of salty, earthy taste of the tahini and tangy taste from lemon juice. The arabic coffee I had was really strong -- it whipped some energy into me and put me into a mood to party after dinner, and I would only recommend to extreme coffee lovers, because its very strong and quite better. The service was really friendly and prompt. The food was served within 10-15 minutes after ordering, and the food was plated neatly. The only suggestion I would have for the restaurant was to serve the food on beautiful colorful arabic plates or on a metal platter like they do in saudi arabia. I love the decor, it really live to its sahara tent name, like I mentioned before it felt like dining on the set of Disney's Aladin. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with wooden seats, clay walls with a touch of unfinished rustic feel, plush cushion with arabic patterns and motif was also present, there is even an intimate seating area, where curtains gives dinners a private seating feeling around them. The entrance felt like an arabian fortress complete with traditional wooden gates. ”
